Guitar Gear News 2026: The Releases That Matter for Low-Tuned Players

2026 has been a big year for digital rigs and for gear aimed at heavy music. This is a selection of the launches most relevant to players in Drop tunings, from NAMM in January to the autumn releases. Prices are launch prices as announced; check current prices locally.
Modelers and captures
- Neural DSP Quad Cortex Mini (NAMM 2026). The same processing power, Neural Capture and CorOS software as the Quad Cortex in a unit less than half the size, with four footswitches.
- IK Multimedia TONEX 2.0 Player (public beta, 7 August 2026). A redesigned app with smart search, deeper ToneNET integration and up to 220 new Premium V2 Tone Models. Free for existing TONEX users.
- IK Multimedia TONEX Board (4 September 2026, $/€999.99). IK's flagship floor unit: up to four Tone Models on two signal paths, a 5" touchscreen, 76 effects and 2,000 Premium Tone Models included. A 4-in/2-out USB audio interface function was promised for 1 October 2026 in a free firmware update.
- Line 6 Helix Stadium and Fractal AM4 were announced in 2025 and reached players in late 2025 and early 2026, so 2026 is the first full year for both.
- Zoom Neurig (October 2026, around $300). A floor unit that runs NAM captures natively, with 32 amp models and room for hundreds of thousands of free NAM and IR files. It is the cheapest way yet to get real-amp captures under your feet, which is good news if you practise at home in Drop tunings.
Pedals and amps
- Warm Audio Fluff Drive (NAMM 2026). Ryan "Fluff" Bruce's first signature pedal, based on the Maxon TS-01 and designed to tighten high-gain amps, which is exactly what low tunings need.
- Orange OR60 (NAMM 2026). A UK-made, all-valve, single-channel 60-watt head that aims to go from vintage crunch to modern high gain.
- Keeley Tube Drive (September 2026). A dual overdrive with a 12AX7 tube.
- MXR Turbo Tuner (October 2026, $149.99). MXR's first tuner, built on Sonic Research's Turbo Tuner: a true strobe with fraction-of-a-cent precision and five custom presets of up to 12 strings each. Presets matter in low tunings: save Drop C, Drop A and your 7- or 8-string set-ups and switch in one step.
- Fulltone OCD’Lux (October 2026, $299, pre-order with shipping expected in early November). Two stackable OCD circuits in one pedal with four voicings: the original VTG and a new Raw mode on one side, V2 and Custom Shop germanium on the other. One side as a tight boost and the other as the drive is a classic recipe for high gain in Drop tunings.
- Crazy Tube Circuits Rapture (October 2026, €189). The overdrive channel of their Triptychon in a box of its own, with toggles for more breakup or more headroom. A "pushed amp" drive, which is exactly what a high-gain amp wants in low tunings.
Guitars
- ESP Black Metal series (September 2026). A nine-model overhaul with baritones, Seymour Duncan pickups and Floyd Rose bridges.
- Ibanez (September 2026). New signature models and a metal P Series.
- Epiphone Futura series (NAMM 2026). Explorer and V shapes with stainless steel frets and compound-radius fretboards.
- Strandberg Arc TILT (NAMM 2026). A patent-pending tremolo for headless guitars.
- PRS Tekton SVN (October 2026). PRS going after the modern-metal crowd: an offset seven-string with a 26.5" scale and stainless frets, built for tuning low. It is the seven-string of the new four-model Tekton line.
- Epiphone Prophecy series (28 October 2026, $1,499 each). A full redesign of Epiphone's performance line: a Victory with a Floyd Rose 1000 tremolo, a 27" Les Paul Baritone, a 25.5" Les Paul, an SG and a Flying V. All have a heat-aged maple neck reinforced with graphite, a new HyperGlide profile, a 10"–14" ebony fretboard, 24 stainless frets and custom-voiced three-voice Fishman Fluence pickups mounted without rings (DAPS). The Baritone ships with .012–.060 strings for baritone tunings, the most relevant model if you play in B or lower. Satin finishes: Orchid Bloom, Obsidian Storm, Crimson Fog, Forest Phantom and Aqua Smoke.
Speakers
- HeadRush FRFR-8 and FRFR-12 CAB (September 2026, $399). Full-range speakers for modelers, with Bluetooth streaming.
What it means for you
The trend is clear: captures of real amps are now standard, units are getting smaller, and touchscreens are everywhere. For low tunings, a small capture unit plus a good FRFR speaker is now a realistic alternative to a tube head and a 4x12 cabinet.
Whatever you play through, the basics do not change. Try a new patch with B Phrygian in Drop B and a palm-muted riff before you decide.
